State Bar Offering Legal Seminar to the Public

Seven-week seminar by the bar's pro-bono group will give Upstate residents an overview of the state's legal system.

The S.C. Bar Pro Bono Program is sponsoring Legal Lessons: A Series for the Public, a seven-week program designed to give the public an overview of the South Carolina legal system and insight into common legal problems people face. 

The series will be held on Thursday evenings beginning Oct. 4 and continuing through Nov. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m. Classes will be held at Spartanburg Community College located at 800 Brisack Rd. The schedule is as follows: 

  • Oct. 4 — overview of state courts and alternative dispute resolution
  • Oct. 11 — juvenile justice and overview of child protection hearings
  • Oct. 18— family law, real estate and landlord-tenant law
  • Oct. 25 — wills, estates and probate, health care and elder law
  • Nov. 1 — S.C. workers’ compensation and employment law
  • Nov. 8 — bankruptcy law, consumer law and debt collection
  • Nov. 15 — criminal law and torts

The deadline to enroll is Friday, Sept. 28. 

The cost of the seven-week course is $45 and includes course materials.
