Salvation Army Needs Golf Tournament Volunteers

Golf Tournament, slated for September 30 at two Upstate courses, will help Salvation Army provide services to Greenville and Pickens County residents.

The Salvation Army of Greenville is hosting its first annual golf tournament and it needs volunteers to help out with the event.

The Red Shield Classic Golf Tournament is slated for Monday, September 30th at the Walker Golf Course at Clemson University and at Furman University, according to Pamela Garcia, Volunteer Coordinator with the Salvation Army of Greenville.

Volunteers are needed at both the Walker Course and Furman University, she said.
“We need volunteers to help man the registration area, help with the break down of the course, to take down signs and the beverage area,” Garcia said. “We also need volunteers to man the beverage area. We need volunteers to help as hole spotters, to keep an eye out for hole-in-ones and closest to the pin.”

Volunteers will be needed in the registration area from 7:30am to about 10am on tournament day.

“For the hole spotters and beverage area volunteers, I'm looking to have them on the golf course at 8:30am to end of golf, which should be between 2-2:30pm,” Garcia said.

“The event is to raise funds for critical programs,” Garcia said. “Funds will help feed families, provide rent and utility assistance to residents of Pickens County and Greenville County.”

Last year alone, the Salvation Army of Greenville served about 43,000 individuals in Greenville County and close to 1,200 individuals in Pickens County, Garcia said.
