Simpsonville's Jones Strikes Gold at Pan American Championship

Champion bowler helps Team USA to gold medal.

PBA Tour champions Tommy Jones of Simpsonville and Bill O'Neill of Langhorne, Pa., combined for a six-game doubles total of 2,805 pins to claim the men’s doubles gold medal for Team USA in the Pan American Confederation Championships in Henderson, Nev. 

In men’s trios, Jones (1,415), O'Neill (1,384) and amateur Marshall Kent (1,264) also earned the silver medal with 4,063, finishing 31 pins behind Canada. Results for men’s and women’s five-player team, all-events and Masters titles have yet to be reported.

At only 31, Jones is one of the PBA's top bowlers. Some of his accolades: PBA Player of the Year (2005-06), PBA Rookie of the Year (2001-02), and Ranked 30th on the list of 50 Greatest Players in PBA History in 2009.
