Are The Tigers Tough To Root For?

While answering fans' questions, sports television personality Kirk Herbstreit called the Clemson Tigers the toughest team to root for in college football.

It's a problem many college football fans probably complain about — your team, it seems, always drops the big game.

Clemson has certainly had its share of forgettable football moments after building up high expectations. In 2006, a 6-1 start was squandered as Clemson dropped three of its last four. In 2008, a pre-season No. 9 Clemson team was expected to be the cream of the crop in the ACC, but a season-opening walloping at the hands of Alabama proved portentous of the rest of a year that included the firing of Tommy Bowden.

And how about last year's Orange Bowl, the first BCS game the Tigers ever played in? (Oh no! West Virginia just scored again!).

We don't mean to pile on — we're merely testing the theory ESPN personality Kirk Herbstreit recently tossed out in a Youtube video. In it, Herbstreit is asked by a Twitter follower which college football team he thinks would be the toughest to be a fan of.

Herbstreit said the toughest team would have to be Clemson because of their habit of falling short of expectations.
