School Notes: Fork Shoals School

Important news and notes from Fork Shoals Elementary.

Fork Shoals is currently accepting Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education.  These collections are exchanged for funds that support various programs at the school.  Donation boxes are in the school bell tower.

It's time for the Greenville Road Warriors 2013 Reading Warriors Program! To participate in this "Six for Sticks Challenge," students need to read six grade appropriate books.In exchange, they'll receive one complimentary ticket voucher for the Reading Warriors Game Night Event! Each participating student will use a reading log to keep track of their success. Upon completion, the reading log should be returned to Ms. Knight in the library by October 31st.

Students are also encouraged to take part in a book drive on the night of the Reading Warriors celebration game. If they bring five or more children's books to donate, they'll receive a buy one get one free ticket voucher. Donated books will be given to the "Friends of the Library" and sold at their annual book sale. All proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Greenville County Library System.

PTA is sponsoring the Reflections Arts contest again this year. Reflections is an arts competition that gives every student a chance to express themselves through visual art, dance, music, photography, film, and literature. This year’s theme is “Believe, Dream, Inspire.” We will accept entries through October 21. Check out the PTA page on our school website for all of the guidelines and entry form. 

The Fall Book Fair will be held Friday, September 27-Friday, October 4.  Visit the library blog at  http://forkshoalsreads.blog.greenville.k12.sc.us/ for hours and a link to shop the Book Fair online.

PTA Family Fun Night will be Monday, September 30.  Come out and join us for food, Bingo, and the Book Fair! Information on preordering food and Bingo cards is on the school website. This event will also include auctions for the following: first in line car passes, front row seats for award and holiday programs, principal and assistant principal of the day.

Please remember that our school doors do not open until 7:15. Teachers are not on duty until that time, and we want our students to be safe. Students should not be dropped off before then. In the afternoons, all students should be picked up by 3:00. We want all of our students safe and supervised appropriately.

Students are not able to charge meals. Balance notices are sent home as needed. You can also keep up with balances on www.myschoolbucks.com. An alternate meal of a ham and cheese sandwich and white milk will be served rather than students charging. Please contact the cafeteria with any questions at 355-5008.

The Salvation Army of Greenville County will accept applications for holiday assistance at the TD Convention Center. Families can apply Saturday, October 12, and Monday, October 14-Thursday, October 17. Visit the school website for more information.

Looking for a way to tell your teacher that you appreciate him or her? WYFF and Bi-Lo are sponsoring the Golden Apple Award. Nomination forms can be picked up at any Bi-Lo.
