Meet the City Council Candidates at Chamber Forum

Simpsonville Chamber of Commerce hosting public meet-and-greet and moderated forum Tuesday night ahead of Nov. 5 elections.

With the Simpsonville City Council election just a few weeks away, the Simpsonville Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a special event Tuesday night to allow voters a chance to meet the candidates and ask them questions.

The free, public event will take place Oct. 15 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Events at Sapphire Creek at 401 North Main Street

The event will include both a moderated question-and-answer session and a meet and greet. During the question-and-answer portion, a moderator will pose 3-4 questions, allowing each candidate exactly two minutes per answer.

The non-partisan elections, scheduled for Nov. 5, shake out as follows:

  • In Ward 2, incumbent Council member Brown Garret will face challenges from Taylor Graham and Deidre White Odumakinde.
  • In Ward 4, incumbent Council member Julius Welborn will face off against Elizabeth Anne Braswell and former Council member James A.R. Fowler, Jr.
  • And, in Ward 6, incumbent Council member Sylvia Lockaby faces a challenge from Judy Hunter.

In the first two races, which consist of three candidates, a run-off election will be necessary two weeks later if neither candidate wins a majority of the vote.
