Simpsonville Man Drowns in Lake Keowee

A man who drowned in Lake Keowee on Monday has been identified as Marquis Valentine, 25, of Simpsonville, Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said.

Marquis was found drowned in about 10 feet of water after swimming with friends at a popular swimming spot called The Rock, near Fall Creek Landing.

Friends reported that around 5 p.m. Valentine began to have difficulty and went under, despite attempts to hold onto him, Addis told WYFF.

Valentine's body was recovered by a rescue diver. Addis ruled the death accidental.

Valentine's death is the second drowning death of a Simpsonville man in recent days. Robert Scott Batson, 45, drowned Saturday night on Lake Hartwell after he fell off a dock.
