Simpsonville Man Denied Bond in Greer Murder Case

Shane Kelly Young is charged with murder, among other charges, stemming from deadly October incident in Greer.

A Simpsonville man facing murder and numerous other charges following an October shootout at a Skyland Road residence in Greer has been denied bond, the Greenville News reported.

Shane Kelly Young, 30, of 3028 Fork Shoals Road in Simpsonville, is charged with first-degree murder, nine counts of attempted murder, five counts of kidnapping, resisting arrest, and discharging a firearm into a dwelling. He was denied bond by Judge Leila Foster during a bier bond hearing on Monday.

In the Oct. 15 incident, authorities said Young fatally shot a man before taking four female hostages at a mobile home at 4307 Skyland Drive in Greer.

Kenneth Darrell Horton, 48, of Greer, was shot with a rifle once in the chest and found face down in a bedroom in what was ruled a homicide, according to Greenville County Deputy Coroner Barry Wright. Authorities said they believe the victim was the new boyfriend of Young's ex-girlfriend.

After hostage negotiations broke down, S.W.A.T. personnel stormed the residence, breaching the door with explosives. Two deputies and the suspect were wounded in the resulting shootout, though all three sustained non-life threatening injuries and are recovering, the sheriff's office said. The deputies have since ben cleared in the shooting and returned to duty by Sheriff Steve Loftis.
