Update: Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Crash

Thomas "Mike" Johnson of Greer died when his SUV crashed into a tunnel divider on Muddy Ford Road.

Update: The county coroner's office has identified the man killed Fiday in a crash on Muddy Ford Road.

Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill said a sport utility vehicle driven by Thomas "Mike" Johnson, 43, of Greer, slammed into a wall that divides the two lanes of the road as it passes under Interstate 85.

The crash caused the vehicle to burst into flames, but Dill the driver died as a result of blunt force trauma from the impact.

Original story: A person has been killed in a single-vehicle crash on Muddy Ford Road near Whispering Hollow.

The accident occurred around 10:45 a.m. Troopers, deputies and the county coroner are at the scene investigating, Fox Carolina reported.

A witness at the scene told the station it appeared a SUV crashed into a tunnel's dividing wall and went up in flames.
