Hey Simpsonville: 5 Things to do This Weekend

Legos for the kids, leaf-peeping for the adults, and (of course) Fall for Greenville.

Looking around for 5 Things to do in the Upstate and Golden Strip on any given weekend typically is an easy task. But this weekend, the world pretty much revolves around just one thing — downtown Greenville's "Fall for Greenville," one of the biggest and most anticipated events of the year.

I mean, seriously, the free festival has become so big and popular, it even has it own smart-phone apps, just so you can keep up with everything going on over the three-day event that starts today at 5 p.m. and runs through Sunday until 7 p.m.

(Honestly, you can download the Android app HERE. The iPhone app can be had HERE).

This is probably where many of you will want to be this weekend, and why wouldn't you? What's not to like about dozens of area restaurants showcasing their best stuff — both onsite and on the street?

Plus, there will be loads of live music. Genre-spanning music. From Bluegrass to Funk, and pretty much everything in-between, all showcased on six stages.

In sum? Fall for Greenville has a lot on its plate this weekend to satisfy you and your friends and family. To get the full scoop on what's in store, and all the pertinent details and nitty-gritty — CLICK HERE.

In the meantime, here are 4 other diversions to occupy your weekend hours:

— Grab hour kids and their Legos and head to the library. Children ages 5 or older are invited to take part in the Build LEGO program, from 3:30-4:30 p.m., at the Hendricks Branch Library, 626 N.E. Main St., Simpsonville. Kids can construct creations built around a particular theme. Call 864-963-9031 for details.

 — The "Sound of Music" will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, and again on Saturday at 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., at the Fountain Inn Center for the Visual & Performing Arts, 315 N. Main St. Visit ftinnarts.org.

— On Saturday, head down the road a spell to enjoy some Bluegrass at the weekly Owings Music Hall Bluegrass Jam. The picking' and grinnin' starts at 7 p.m. All acoustic bluegrass, gospel and old country music. No admittance fee, everything is donation only. Come and enjoy, or come and jam. For more info, contact Gary Garland (864) 200-9762, or CLICK HERE.

— If you have a hankering to get out of town this weekend, how about a trip up the mountain for some leaf-peeping? It's peak leaf season in many higher elevations of western North Carolina, and the weather forecast looks favorable. Not exactly sure where to head? Start with this website to plan your day trip.
